Photology: next-gen photo organizer

Photology photo organizerPhotology is Windows software for organizing and searching through your digital photos. Photology intuitively searches a user’s photo collection and filters by a number of criterias. Photology is unique as it requires no tagging or folder management to organize and search for photos. Photology provided its online demo recently which is using about 9,000 photos from Flickr to show how the software works. The classifications you’ll see are the result of a completely automated analysis, which is the identical analysis that the desktop Photology application does.

Update According to the official site Photology is no longer developed or supported but you can download the latest working Photology version from Cnet. If you know a good alternative to Photology, add it in the comments.

While nothing beats tags for sorting photos, with Photology you can handle your photos without tagging it manually or putting in organized folders. You are able to quickly search through thousands of probably untagged photos to find the one you’re looking for. It is especially useful for large number of users who have no wish or time to tag all their photos.

By further development this technology has a great potential. With Photology you can search for photos using intuitive search filters that reflect the way people think and remember. You can find photos, searching by time of day and date (month, year), orientation (vertical or horizontal), over/under exposed photos, taken inside or outside, coarse or fine color search, photo objects: plants, sky, faces, beach, flowers, snow, sunset, water.

With Photology you can get to virtually any photo you want to find in a very limited number of clicks. For example, you are looking for your photo in green jacket made last year in the evening, so you apply filters: green color, date, time of the day and you are done! It’s much easier to browse within 10 selected by Photology photos than within hundreds.

Besides text search of captions, file names, folders and built-in upload to Flickr, standalone Photology version contains some basic photo editing options such as auto-color, white point, brightness & contrast, red-eye, crop, rotate. Unfortunately, it is paid software and costs 29$.
