1. Edit photos for Facebook
You can use a number of free Photoshop alternatives to quickly improve your photos for Facebook: increase contrast, sharpen, remove red eyes. I also highly recommend free and easy to use image viewer and editor XnView. If you’re using Photoshop, check out these Photoshop tips.
2. Resize to proper Facebook photo dimensions
Facebook photo engine resizes any photos you upload unless you follow these rules on image dimensions. Every time the image is resized it loses some quality. It is strongly recommended that you scale the image before adding it to Facebook.
Facebook Profile photo size
Width: 200 pixels
Height: up to 600 pixels.
You can start from 200 pixels if you want your profile pic to be square and increase height if you want a vertical profile pic.

Facebook Album photo size
Width: 720 pixels
Height: 720 pixels.
If you upload landscape (horizontal) photo on Facebook it should be 720×540 , if it’s a portrait mode (vertical pic) then demensions would be 540×720.
