I'm glad that from the comments above, people still like nice looking business cards. My two cents are that business cards wont be obsolete, rather there will be a shift in the contact details that will be included in them. For example, instead of fax, it will just be email or website. But you do raise a good point on wanting to see what people look like and their background. I myself tend to want to put a face against a name. Nice post.

I'm sorry, but the business card is far from obsolete. Especially in this down trodden economy we live in. When one is out networking, one of the best ways to stand out from the crowd is to have a card. The thing I hate the most is "just send me an email -do you have a pen?" And the rare moment I see the cool design card, I make sure to hold onto it.

Firstly, I'm sure I agree with all your assertions, but I do admit it is the rare card I keep –however that is largely because they are BORING. To that point, I think it's a bit of a d*ck move to link to other peoples site who are demonstrating business card art as a POSITIVE and for INSPIRATIONAL purposes when you only intend to shoot down the entire purpose and premise of their post. Find your own examples of "bad" business cards and then critique them accordingly. Your choice to link to others work comes off as lazy and a bit mean-spirited.
